What a great night we had on Saturday which saw the club raise over £1600. A lot of thankyous, those that sponsored the races, bought horses, backed horses on the night and bought raffle tickets. The last race i.e. the auction race was the ''icing on the cake'' as there was £1200 spent on horses of which £600 went to the club. I would like to thank the ''girls'' who helped out on Saturday night and to Paul Harrison for organising the event [glad to see his dad Bob there at the event. We will be holding another race night next year and I can give you a tip,, which ever horse Ben Pearson buys or backs don't put a penny on it.

Before the game Ben Pearson the manager made three big decisions as in playing a 4-4-2 formation, playing Eddy Atkinson in the centre of defence and giving one of the youngest players Josh Brook the captains armbands and at the end of the game I am glad to say that all of this worked well with the team winning their first game of the season. Normally the centre of midfield dictate the pace of the game but today it was our back four and also if they compacted the game or expanded it. With all back four players comfortable on the ball they at times played along their 18 yard line so creating space for our midfielders to find space and collect the ball or even bringing the ball out of defence themselves with midfielders automatically filling in for them, great team work. When called for the team pressed up to the half way line and pressed the St George players when they had possession and Nick Cage did this brilliantly which resulted in him getting the first goal. After this it was one way traffic with our players one on one with the goalkeeper and been too honest for their own good when been fouled in the penalty area but stopping on their feet. The second half started in the same vein as the first. Sam Jefferson whipped in a free kick which was missed by all and went in at the far post. At this point Holme were cruising at 2-0 but unfortunately Brad Delves headed into his own goal [ I was informed after the game that Brad had been poorly the night before and was suffering dehydration and had been hallucinating during the game]. At long last Holme did get a penalty but Danny Shaw's spot kick was saved and in the scramble to clear the ball Danny suffered a horrific nose injury. Mark Burke came on as a sub and used his experience to hold up the ball upfront and just before the end of the game Sam Jefferson coolly slotted the ball home to secure a well deserved three points. The MOM went to Tom Clark for his tenacious work in midfield but the main positive point was the attitude and discipline of the team no more so than Nick Cage who was kicked all over the place and had some close offside decisions go against him but glad to say Nick controlled his emotions and made St George pay the price. Well done to all associated with the 1st team. Next Saturday sees the team at Home to Reckitts Reserves who have won both of their league games comfortable.

The team had their first league game against Moorends Stingers yesterday and gave a great account of themselves in a all aspects of what good football is all about. As a defensive unit the team was brilliant in getting goal side and putting in some crunching tackles no more so than Henry and Luke who in one tackle knocked three players down in one go two of theirs and one of ours! The team alternated the goalkeeper role and Tyler made some brave outstanding saves to keep Moorends out. Both Jake and Theo showed off their dribbling skills throughout the game and kept the ball very well. Harrison as always covered every blade of grass was immense in both defence and attack and linked well with other team mates. On the attacking front Milo who is normally associated with only defending went up field and hit a tremendous shot which was heading for the top corner but credit to Moorends goalkeeper he made a great save. The teams goal scoring efforts mainly rested with Jamie who peppered the goal with shots going close, hitting the post and I am glad to say finding the back of the net. The MOM went to Jamie but all of the team put in a great shift I cannot believe how much they have progressed within a year. This Saturday the team are at home to Snaith.
Holme Rovers under 9's blacks

I was asked to stand in and help run the under 9's blacks today with their first league fixture of the season and what a great game it turned out to be. Things did not start too well with only 6 players been present at the start of the game and the team soon found themselves a few goals down but to their credit they kept their heads up and started to play as a team as in getting goal side and putting in some great defensive work. When the team managed to have seven players on the pitch they matched Goole in all areas and matched them goal for goal. It was great to see how the team worked well together with great passing which culminated in some fine goals been scored. I do not like to mention individuals normally but a big congratulations to Lucia in completing her first full game [60 minutes!!!] and to Tom who got my man of the match in having to work up front on his own while having only 6 players and was richly rewarded in getting a great goal near the end of the game but his goal celebrations need some working on! Again a big thanks to all players giving 100% over 60 minutes and enjoying every minute of it.
