With Nick Cage missing through injury the big question for Holme was where were the goals going to come from. Both teams knew they had to get 3 points to stand any chance of catching league leaders North Ferriby United. This was a hard fought physical game with very few chances in the first half. In the second half Holme had 3 great chances to take the lead. A poor clearance from Warne gave Ben Franklin with nobody in goal a great chance to score from long distance but narrowly missed. Shortly after that a long clearance from Sam Clayton saw Aiden Marshall clear on goal and missed the chance and in the following melee he had another chance but missed this opportunity. On a breakaway Warne crossed from the right and Jonny Dowson and as he normally does giving 100% to get back to help the defence put the ball into his own net. Holme gave everything they had and close to the end of the game Josh Brook brought the ball out of defence and put a perfect through ball to Matthew Wright who controlled it first time and slotted it past the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net but to everyone's surprise the ref. gave offside with not even the Warne defence appealing for offside. Holme can count themselves so unlucky for not coming away with all 3 points. The m.o.m. went to Eddy Atkinson who put in a great performance in midfield. So it looks as if the cups are the only hope now of the team collecting any silverware. The draw for the HE Dean cup has taken place which the team won last year and they got a bye in the first round and have drawn fellow premiership team North Cave in round 2. As to the 2nd team their game was postponed due to wet conditions. The good news was that league leaders Langtoft got beat 6 nil to Hedon Rangers 3rds [there 1st ad 2nd teams had no games], so they now come into the frame for winning the league with Langtoft and Holme. Holme play bottom club Driffield this Saturday good luck.

Holmes unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday in this quarter final Senior Country Cup game. Westella looked a fit young side and it was obvious that Holme was going to be in for a hard game. Holme due to the fact that Westella did not give them too much time on the ball could not get their passing game going and more often than not played the long ball to Nick Cage who on couple of occasions found himself one on one with the keeper who made vital saves. In the second half Nick Cage had to come off injured and Holmes best hope of scoring was from set pieces. Westella's fitness began to show and Sam Clayton had to make some great saves which earned him the man of the match award. Mid way through the second half Westella broke down their left and a shot went across Sam Clayton into the far corner of the goal. Credit to Holme they battled on and had a couple of half chances. Again Scott Steels was awesome in the centre of defence well supported by Rob Dowson who now knows the art of ''jockying''.This Saturday Holme go to Warne in a 6 pointer. In the same fixture earlier this season Holme got one of their best results in beating Warne 3-1 when they played with a flat back 4, what will Ben Pearsons formation be for this Saturday especially with Nick Cage been a major doubt and who will be in the starting 11? The second teams game was cancelled and looking at Saturdays results its a 2 horse race for the division 4 title between Holme and Langtoft. Having watched Langtoft Holme may have to win all their remaining games to clinch the title which if they are able to field a strong team is well within their capability. Best of luck on Saturday against Long Riston.

Saturday was a great day for out first team with them gaining 3 points and the two top teams in their league dropping points, the most surprising was North Ferriby drawing with bottom club Bridlington. Sculcoates found themselves 2nd from bottom in the league and Holme have a history of not putting these sort of teams ''away'' but credit to Holme they brushed Sculcoates away on Saturday. For the first 25 minutes Holme could not got out of second gear but then suddenly went into overdrive scoring 3 quick goals from Nick Cage 2 and Gareth Saltmer. In the second half Holme shut shop with Scott Steels been awesome in the centre of defence well supported by Bradley Delves and Rob Dowson who must be favourite for the title of most improved player [ it means Rob you were not very good last year]. As the game was drawing to a close to of our most experienced players got on the score sheet as in Mark Burke and Ben Franklin. As a result of running thes how from midfield the m.o.m. went to Matthew Wright. Next Saturday the 1sts find themselves playing Westella & Willerby in the quarter final of the Senior Country Cup when Ben Pearson will have again some hard decisions to make if all players are available. The treble is still on!!! Back at the Hare and Hound I learned that the 2nds drew yet again but should have won with all the chances they had. They really could do with 3 points this Saturday against Hedon. I was also informed that during the game Steve Lynch did an audition for been Tom Dalys diving partner at a cost of £10.

This was always going to be a hard game for Holme as Langtoft had remained unbeaten in the league since Holme beat them way back in October 3-2. The first half was very scrappy with both sides cancelling each other out the only thing of note was a 20 yard effort from Steve Lynch which went straight to the goalkeeper. Just before half time Holme conceded a free kick 25 yards out and unfortunately our keeper had a ''Gary Sprake'' moment and from the resulting shot appeared to throw the ball into his own net. In the second half Holme showed some urgency and put Lantoft under more pressure but still did not create many clear cut chances. Jonyy Foster made some substitutions and one of them Aidan Marshall should have equalised when receiving the ball 6 yards out in middle of the goall but blasted it over the crossbar. With 3 minutes remaining a high cross was punted into the 6 yard box and Harry Dowson met it with his hand and put it in the back of the net to secure a hard earned point for Holme. With Long Riston and AFC Duke of York losing Holme still find themselves in 2nd place with games in hand. Next week they play AFC Duke of York which should be a hard game. The first team entertain Sculcoates Reserves when Rob Dowson will be hoping to get another 90 minutes to boost up his fitness levels
