U9's Match Report v Brayton (H) Saturday 17th September
Holme Rovers U9's Brayton
Goalscorers: Buddy Dunham (3), Logan Cox, Harvey Sedman, Harry Goodwin, Josh Hinch
Man of the Match: Buddy Dunham
Brayton started the game well and their early pressure paid off when they took an early lead from a shot just inside the area. This setback seemed to spur Rovers into action and only two great saves by the Brayton keeper denied first Harry Goodwin and then Logan Cox goals. The home team were not to be denied and a beautifully flighted corner by Will Pearson was turned in for the equaliser by Logan Cox.
A skilful Brayton team responded well and goalkeeper Billy Wilson had to be alert to keep out a goalbound effort. Will was solid in breaking up Brayton attacks, aided by some good defensive work from James O'Driscoll.
Rovers then began to exert more pressure themselves and Buddy Dunham gave them the lead with a deflected shot. Rovers continued to press and Buddy was unlucky not to extend the lead when he hit the bar with a vicious strike. Moments later he had more luck as his well placed shot.
Ethan Ashley and Harvey Sedman both went close before great work from Logan allowed Buddy to complete a well-deserved hat trick. Rover's defence stood firm and James Huddlestone was on hand to make a number of important tackles.
Brayton started the second half on the front foot and Billy needed to be on his toes as they strove to reduce the deficit. However, it was the home side that again began to threaten, Harry executing a Cruyff-turn to wrong foot the Brayton defence before a one two with Buddy presented Harvey with a great chance that deserved a goal but was well saved. Josh Hinch, playing through the pain-barrier, added the fifth goal before a defensive mix-up allowed Brayton to pull a goal back.
As the game moved into it's final quarter Logan's direct running and pinpoint pass meant that Harry got the goal he deserved. He almost made it two when the keeper pulled off a great save but Harvey was there to make no mistake with the rebound.
Brayton continued to press and their efforts were rewarded first by a great headed goal from a corner and then a shot from distance made the final score **** Holmes Win
A great performance from the team today and we'll be looking to continue with this good form when we visit Garforth next week.
Apparently the FA ruling dictates that scores of completed matches cannot be shown or referred to. This forum has been reset and all match report tabs have been removed.
